Based on Poltergeist by Steven Spielberg, Michael Grais, and Mark Victor, Poltergeist is a 2015 supernatural horror film, a modern remake of the 1982 classic, produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Gil Kenan. It centers on the Bowen family who move into a new suburban home only to have their youngest daughter abducted by malevolent spirits.
The story follows the Bowen family: Eric and Amy, teenage daughter Kendra, son Griffin, and young daughter Madison. After Eric is laid off, they move into an affordable house that has some problems. Soon, strange occurrences begin, which quickly escalate from moving objects to full-blown paranormal attacks.
The spirits, communicating through static on the television, abduct young Madison into another dimension through a closet portal. The family seeks help from a team of parapsychologists led by Dr. Claire Powell and a celebrity ghost hunter named Carrigan Burke. They discover that the house was built over a graveyard, and the spirits want to use Madison’s “special gifts” as a gateway.
